Evangelism may sometimes cause us to be disappointed or boastful. We can avoid those reactions if we understand our role in evangelism. Paul reminds us only God gives the growth (1 Co 3:6-7); we are God’s fellow workers (3:9); the foundation of our work is Christ only (3:11); the most important question for a worker is how we build upon it – will our work last? (3:10, 14)

What is worldly? In 1 Co 3:3, the jealousy and quarrellings among the church reflect their worldliness. Paul in 1 Co 3:5-9 directs their attention from the servant to the master. God is the one who deserved their attention. The division in the church are due to their admiration of the wisdom of man (probably Apollos, Paul, and Peter attract them in their preaching) 1 Co. 3:18-20. Division destroy the temple of God, and it is a serious sin. God will destroy the one who divide the church 1 Co. 3:16-17. As a pastor wife, I often hear praise from brothers and sisters regarding the pastor. May the congregation forget the channel. Our attention should be the Lord Himself.
