Matt 27

The chapter is the climax of the rejection of the Messiah. Notice that Jesus’ enemies remember every teaching concerning who Jesus is and His prediction about His resurrection. They have many opportunities that they can release Jesus but they insist to crucify Him.
Why would a crowd singing praises “Hosanna, Hosanna!” but after one week, the same crowd shouting, “Crucify him!”? Because Jesus does not do things in a way they want. They expect a powerful Messiah but when Jesus shows up as a suffering servant, they thought Jesus is a liar. If God does not answer our prayer in a way we expect, will we forsake God just like this crowd?

Matthew repeats that the blood of Jesus is innocent (Matthew 27:4, 24). He dies because the chief priests and teachers do not believe that He is the Christ, the Son of God (Matthew 26:63). The only proof that they will recognize that He is God is through His coming down from the Cross (Matthew 27:42-43, 49). Had Jesus ever proved Himself before them? Certainly. He had done numerous miracles, but they do not want to accept those. Are we like those priests and teachers who blind our own eyes and said God has to do a certain thing in order to admit that He is God/He loves me?
