Paul has a very clear purpose of his life. In Acts 20:24, he says, “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” (New Living Translation). Do you know God’s specific plan in your life? Or, you just go along with other people. What drives your life? Because of Paul’s clear purpose of life, he endures in his service and withstands persecutions (Acts 20:29). He never fears men but only fears God. That’s why his message never changes no matter who he faces (Acts 20:20-21). I hope we all strife for the same goal like Paul – “to finish the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus.”

Why did Paul avoid spending time with his church in Asia (Acts 20:16)? He is in a hurry to got to Jerusalem. Why? "I only know that...prison and hardships are facing me (Acts 20:23)." Will you go in hurry to the trouble in your life? However, as Mike said Paul knows what is the will of God and He wants to accomplish it. Paul knows about it and he wants to finish his task in other places before he becomes a prisoner. What is most important about Paul in this passage. Speaking to the people until midnight (Acts 20:7), talking until day break (Acts 20:11), reminding the elders what he taught them before (Acts 20:20), warning the elders about the false teachers (Acts 20:29), committing them to the Word (Acts 20:32)... In other words, the center of his life is about the Word of God.
