Matt 24

There are two events about the coming of the Lord: The first event is the Rapture – Jesus descends from heaven and the church is taken (i.e. rapture) to meeting the Lord in the air. (1 Thess 4:13-18). This is not the event that Matt 24 talks about. The second event is the Second Advent – Jesus returns to the earth. That is also Matt 24-25’s context (Matt 24:30; 25:31). Thus, we have to interpret those parables in the context of 2nd Advent. Jesus explained to them that He will come back unexpectedly (24:36-39).
