Amos 6
Amos' lives in a wealthy day. Both Northern and Southern kingdom are at peace and enjoy wealth (v.3-6). At least the leaders of the country are like that (v.1). Never have they think that the Lord will end that (v.2) because of their injustice and unrighteousness (v.12). Amos uses a story to illustrate the total destruction of the Lord (v.8-11). "Hush, We must not mention the name of the Lord (v.10)." In other words, it means, "Do not let the Lord knows that I am here."
We tend to forget about the Lord and His warning in time of prosperity, but when we are under His discipline we want the Lord to forget about us. The propose of the the prophet is to remind them about that. Look at your lives now and try to avoid the future discipline. Repent and grieve over sins.
