Amos 4
Israel sins when they go to worship (v.4)! It is because the place they go, Bethel is where the golden calf is. They also sin when they offer the wrong sacrifice (v.5 the leavened bread instead of the unleavened bread). In the Mosaic Law this is stated specifically. Why they mix up? Careless? No. They care less! Yet, they brag and boast about their offerings (v.5b). The same result for both kinds of sin, namely, punishment (v.6-11). Five punishments to warn them: famine, drought, property lost, military lost, total destruction. Finally, they have to meet the Lord for judgment (v.12). This all begins with their worship. They worship the wrong object, and worship in a wrong manner. How do I worship God every day in my devotion? Do I brag and boast about my devotion because I can do it EVERYDAY? However, I drag about it. I do not do it right the way like I normally do in the morning. I do it at 4PM! This reflects something wrong in my manner.
