Joseph spent 13 years as a slave in Egypt before he was raised up by Pharaoh. However, in this 13 years, instead of living in bitterness, he is faithful to God. He was always humble. When Pharaoh asked about his ability to interpret dreams, Joseph answered Pharaoh, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer." (41:16). He wouldn’t appeal for his case when he knew this was his best chance to be free but he minded Pharaoh’s business. When he was in power, he wouldn’t go back to Potiphar and took revenge. How can we be like Joseph? It is the work of the Holy Spirit within Joseph. As Pharaoh described Joseph as a person “in whom is the Spirit of God.” (41:38) God did not waste 13 years of Joseph’s time but He used this time to build up Joseph.
