Exodus 5-6

God was going to transform Moses one more time. This time is from a man of “I can’t” to a man of “God can.” In these 2 chapters, Moses complained to God several times. In 5:22-23, Moses complained to God that He have not rescued His people. In 6:10-12, Moses told God that neither His people nor Pharaoh listened to him. 2 times Moses mentioned he can’t because he spoke with faltering lips (6:12, 30). All Moses can see are his environment, people’s response and his limitation. But God would show him all he needed to see was God Himself because God can.

When I read 5:21-23 I feel the pain of Moses. They supposed to come to rescue the Israelites, but they added more pain to the people and now they complained to them. In fact, what they said is true. The Egyptians are really persecuting them (they beat them and adding more jobs to them v.14,16). Then God spoke to Moses again and reassure to him about the promise to Abraham (6:1-13). However, the Israelites do not want to listen (6:9). Their reason of not listening is their suffering. But this is a message of deliverance (v.1-8). Why do they not receiving it? I think it is because suffering causes a bitter heart in us, even to a point that people do not have faith any more. They do not see the big picture (God's promise of the land of Cannan) and only focus on their own feelings. Do we indwell on our own small world too much? Focus too much on our sufferings too much?
