Passover is an object lesson that God teaches Israel about salvation. From the New Testament, we now know the Passover lamb is a “type” of Jesus Christ. (A type foreshadows the real object.) Special instructions like “you shall not break any of its bones” (12:46) foreshadows that Christ will die without any of His bones being broken.
In Passover, the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel. The salvation is not based on their nationality but is based on the blood of the lamb. Exo 12:13 says, “The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.” Unless the Israelites believe and follow God’s instruction and apply blood on the door post, they will perish just like the Egyptians. Likewise, God promises are useless to us until we apply them to ourselves.
