James tells us the source of our fights and quarrels. It is from our passion (v.1) which is driven by our wrong motive (v. 3) which is out of our will to make friend with this world (v. 4). Ultimately, it is from the temptation from the Devil (v. 7).
James also shows us how to have victory over our sins: First, submit to God and resist the Devil by not making friend with this world. Second, draw near to God by loving God. Then, humble yourself in repentance (vv. 8b-10). A true humble person will not judge others (vv. 11-12) or boast about himself (vv. 13-16).
