James 3

Every one can identify with what James says, “we all stumble in many ways” and especially in our speech. Relationship that takes years to build can be destoryed by our words. This passage is not to ask us to control our tongue so that we will not“stumble in what he says.” Because James concludes “no human being can tame the tongue.” (v. 8) This passage points out our speech is a reflection of our life – fig tree won’t produce olives (v. 12). If we let our new life from God as our source of speech, then our tongue will be under control. Our behavior does not determine who we are but who we are determines our behavior.
