We can learn from Abraham how to partition for others. When Abraham prayed, his prayer was based on God’s righteousness – “Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?” (18:23) and God’s mercy with a humble attitude – “I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes.” (18:27). And he was persistent in his request but he left the decision up to God. Surely, his partition changed the course of history. God showed mercy to Lot though there was only one righteous in the city. The two sons from Lot, Moab and Ammon, became important countries in Israel’s history.
Notes: One of the great sin of Sodom and Gomorrah is homosexuality. Their sin is spelled out in Jud 1:7, “just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”
