Rom 4

What is faith? Abraham’s faith is described in 4:17-25. The object of faith is God – the one who creates and gives life (v. 17). The characteristic of faith is hope (v. 18). A hope that is against all hope (v. 18-20) but roots on the promise of God (v. 20). Faith brings confidence and thanksgiving (v. 20).

The only different between Abraham’s faith and our faith is the content of the promise. His promise is “So shall your offspring be” (v. 19) but our promise is “believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification” (v 24-25).

Salvation by faith and not by work is the main theme in Rom 1-5. However, there is another theme underneath that, which is, salvation is not only for Jews but also for Gentile (v.9-11, and 14-16). The mechanism of faith is accessible to all people. Everyone can have receive the salvation of God. The death of Christ is sufficient for the provision of the salvation for every human beings. Are we ready to tell everyone about this?
