Rom 2-3

The theme of Romans is the righteousness of God. It is a very important concept in Romans and it is interwoven in every chapter of the book. For example, the passage 1:18-3:20 is talking about our need of God’s righteousness. Three different groups are presented: the lawless Gentile (1:18-1:32); the moral people (2:1-16) and the religious Jews (2:17-29).

My sharing: Those who understand God’s righteousness has a great responsibility. If we practice not we preach, we bring blasphemy to God as Rom 2:24 says “For, as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."”

Sometimes unbelievers tell us why they refuse to accept the gospel because they have bad experience with Christians. When I hear that, I have nothing to say but ask for God’s forgiveness.

In chapter 2, I found that boasting about your own righteousness is useless v.1-3, having the law of righteousness is useless v.12, teaching about righteousness is useless v.17-23, and finally having the ritual practice by the righteous people is useless. What count in front of God is the righteous behavior, because only those who has a righteous heart is able to do that.
