Gal 2

Fearing of man is one of the most common problem among us. It is even more common among many church leaders. When Paul rebuked Peter, he was just a nameless evangelist. He was nothing comparing to Peter, the Pillar of the Church. However, when Paul saw things that “was not in step with the truth of the gospel,” (2:14) he would contend for our faith “so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.” (2:5) Paul did that because he feared God more than feared men.

What Peter did in v.11-13 is according to the Jewish custom that they will separate from the Gentile who do no have circumcision. This is exactly the same reason that he should have refuse to visit Cornelius in Acts 10. In Gal. 2:14, Paul explains to us that this is a subtle way to force the Gentile to follows the rule of Jews and have circumcision v.14. Of course what they ask for is not correct according to the Gospel. Gentile do not need to become a Jews/having circumcision/follow the Law v.16 and be saved. This is the Gospel that Paul contend for.
