Matt 26

My sharing: I used to have a wrong perception about faith and prayer. If I have faith and pray so as to lay my burden to God, God will give me a sense of peace. Now, I think this is not biblical. Even Jesus struggled when He was praying in Gethsemane. Jesus’ prayer is a struggle of will. It is not a feeling of peace. We do not pray until we have a peace of mind. We pray so that our will conforms to God’s will.

The timing is an important issue in Matt.26. In v.2 Jesus told them that He will be crucified in 2 days! Then Matthew told us that the enemy is all ready in v.3. A woman pour the ointment on Jesus' head to prepare His burial v.12. "You will not always have me v.11." Then Judas is ready to betray Jesus. "And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him v.16." During the passover feast, Jesus said, "My time is at hand v.18" More Scriptures can be traced about the urgency of this passage v.29,31. In this urgent situation, what will you do? You are going to be caught and killed, what will you do? Jesus prays v.36-46. After the third time He invited the disciples to watch and pray with Him the enemies come. He said, "Sleep and take your rest later on v.45." Therefore, the prayer and the coming of the enemy is closely related. When we see the clear and present danger, what will you do? According to Jesus, He prays.
