Matt 10-11

Chapter 10 is an answer to the pray in Matt 9:38. Very often when we pray for more labor, God will send us as labor. Chapter 10 is the proclamation of the kingdom by the Twelve. It is quite clear that their scope of proclamation is different from our scope in church age. The gospel is limited to Israel (vv. 5-7). The kingdom is near because the king has arrived.

Chapter 11 starts to show us the doubt and rejection of Israel about the kingdom.

My Sharing: Even accompany with miracles, people would not repent (11:20). Won’t you feel frustrated when you serve in this environment? However, Jesus is able to praise God (11:25) and He invites us to learn from Him (11:29). In the past, I take 11:28-30 for unbelievers but now I see it is for us who serve in the Lord. Even the environment is not favorable, we rest our effort in Christ.

“Never indulge, at the close of an action, in any-reflective acts of any kind, whether of self-congratulation or of self-despair. Forget the things that are behind, the moment they are past, leaving them with God.” - Hannah Whitall Smith

10:1 is the key to chapter 10. These 12 apostles are given the power and authority to perform miracles from Jesus. (1) They are the delegates of Jesus, the people receive them when they receive Jesus and vice versa v.24. Therefore Jesus told them that they do not need to worry about their food or money v.9-15 and how people will treat them v.16-23. (2) We are not the 12 apostles. In other words, we do not have the authority and power that they have. In the church age, miracles and healing are gifts given by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12). Still it is given according to the will of God. Therefore, not every gospel preacher will have that ability. As a matter of fact I believe they are no longer exist according to 1 Cor 13.
