Jeremiah is one of the unwelcoming prophets in the Bible. He goes through all the difficulties when he preached the word of God to his people 3:14. Therefore, he has a heavy heart in v.19-20. Those are the reality of life. However, he also has something else call to his mind: God's love and compassion v.21-22. Because of that "we are not consumed v.22." When we are consumed by our own afflictions we indulge in it and become depressed. Some people like to stay in that situation and do not want to look at God's love and compassion on them.
The love and compassion of God are new every morning. This remind me about the living water that Jesus talks about with the Samaritan woman (John 4). The living water springs inside us. They will never be dried up. No matter how big the challenge is we can always look up for the love and compassion of God. Jeremiah faces the challenge of the people when he shared God's word. His word is not welcomed by the people. Some of them even kept him in the prison of a dried well. He was hanged there with the mud. In that situation he still says, " Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail v.22."
