James 3:1-12

This passage is not only about our tongue or our speech. Starting in v.1 James wants to give warning to those who want to be teacher. He says we all stumble in many ways v.2. If you want to be a teacher you will be judge more strictly v.1a. Can we stand such judgment with our faults? James then list one of the fault-our tongue v.2b. I think that may be a trend among the Christians there that want to show off their talent or knowledge and want to teach others. However, their speech (include those when they teach and when they are not) are not good. I say this because from the context of v.3-12 James does not limit to the context of teaching anymore. Therefore, when we evaluate a teaching not only how he does when he teach you but also when he is not. For us who want to be teacher to other in the future. This is a good reminder.
This week I talked to my old roommate and we discussed many issues. The topic of racism was brought up and I gave her an example I heard. Even though I did not mention the name but I thought of a specified person when I said to her. I told her I hate that when "some" people said,"Do you have this/that in China?" The Scripture says, "Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. v.10"

It is very insightful when you correlate the teacher with their daily speaking.
