Ps. 37:23-31
The whole chapter of Ps. 37 compares the righteous and the wicked man. The wicked is cursed and the righteous is blessed. Therefore in v.27, the psalmist encourage the reader to turn from the wickedness and do good. Then he describe what to do if you want to be righteous v.30, i.e. speak wisdom and just.
What does this do to a Christian? We confess we are sinner and we are not saved by our works! The secret of the righteous man is in his heart v.31. He is able to do good is because of the law in his heart. The "law" refers to the Old Testament law. Following the law is a guide for the one who wants to fellowship with God. Therefore this psalm refers to the OT believers who want to fellowship with God. The psalmist encourages them to be the law-followers. For Christians today, we are not under the law, but we also have the desire to fellowship with God-by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In other words, this passage also encourages us to fellowship with God because He is good to those who walk close to Him. The LORD will also uphold us with his hand when we stumble v.24.
