Matt. 4:1-11
Today's passage focus on the topic of temptation. However, we have to have a clear distinction what is it. Temptation is not natural desire. Jesus was hungry after 40 days of fasting v.2. In other words, we may have all kind of desires and they are not sin. How do you fulfill those desire can involve sin. Like Jesus, He knows that the purpose for Him to go to the desert is to be tempted v.1. Therefore, He decides not to have food by His own way v.3. He can turn the rock into bread, but He knows His task and not willing to give up. Then Satan tempted Him the second time in v.5-7. I feel like the same. I thought I am done with temptation and get over it. However the second wave will come soon. Be prepared. You will be beaten down big when you feel like there is no way out of the temptations! Note, both times Jesus uses Scriptures to resist Satan, and Satan uses Scriptures, too! Know your Scriptures well so that you will know what Satan is quoting is out of the context. Finally, Satan gives up the Scriptures quiz and went straight to the point, "Bow down to me!" This is the ultimate goal of him. When we give in to temptation we are giving in to Satan. Jesus is our example when He faces temptation.
We switch to dial in internet lately and when I trip over the line and the line get lose my internet is off. When we not following Jesus' example in resisting temptation we will fall.
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:15-16)"
