Someone in the Corinthian church have doubted the authority of Paul. Thus he needs to defense himself in this passage. He compares himself with the other false teachers and said he is more qualify than them. He has the same heredity privilege like them v.22, and he is a servant of Christ v.23. Then he elaborate about the servant of Christ. This is also my question lately. I am sure God has called us into ministry, but why there is no place for us to go. There must be something that we still need to do to get ready.
I think this is it. To have a heart to suffer for Him and His Gospel v.23b-30. Both physical pain v.23b-27 and mental distress v.28-29. When we were in Hong Kong I am not very happy to live with my father. In short, we have character-clash. Mike is very patient to him because he said this is for the Gospel. I think it is easy for him to say because he has not live with my father for that long. However, I agree with him now. No matter how hard I feel to suffer for Christ is a higher call. If I can get along with my father I have a better chance to witness to him.
If I really love Him and want to be a servant of Him I am willing to do anything. I do not even suffer to the same degree as Paul! Paul knows this is painful to go through all the missionary trip. But he is not scared from it when he goes to back to preach again and again. Does he knows there is danger waiting for him? Yes, but that does not change his plan.
