Proverbs 15:13-33

Well, I found I still have internet access today, why not post 1 more day!
 Prov. 15:13-33

To read the proverbs is a little bit different than the rest of the Bible. From ch 10, proverbs are individual short wisdom sayings, and they have little connection between verses. They are the old sayings that comes from observation of life. I am sure you can think about a lot of those in Chinese. Having said that, in 15:13-17 there is a common theme comparing the rich and the poor and in v.30-33 about the humility. For the rest it is best to read verse by verse. Also notice the contrast between the first half of the verse and the second. The are contrasting so that they bring out what is not said in the first half. For example, "A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother (v.20)." The foolish man is also a son, and the despise also belongs to the father (pulling from the first half). When I come home to see my father, I first worry about staying with him for so long. But the Scriptures encourages me that having wisdom is the key. It brings joy to my father.

Audrery, so who wrote the proverbs? Are they mainly to praise GOd like the Psalms? They don't seem to be like the other books in the bible where those books seem to be porphetic and more like direct words from God (God breathed)...

Some of the proverbs are written by Solomon-son of David (1:1, 10:1). As I said, they are more like observations of life of an old man. However, all Scriptures are God-breath (2 Tim 3:16). In other words, the Holy Spirit speaks through the Bible to us. They are benefit to us. They are not the regular "wise words" only. However, with this genre, we do not interpret them the same as the other parts in the Bible (just like the way I suggest to you in the blog). We should read them more generally than precisely when talking about a principle. E.g. the one I share in v.20, you may find some parents who are not pround of their wise children. However, in general parent will be pround of their wise children. Get it?
