Sorry for being late, I was out of town and just got home.
Exo. 20:1-7
We may find v.3-7 very familiar because they are the first 2 of the 10 commandments. Why did God give the Israel those commandments? The first 2 verses are very important clue. God is the one who brought them out of the land of Egypt. The exodus is directly caused by the work of God, which is the 10 plagues. This change the whole cause of their lives, i.e. from slavery to freedom (v.2). Who am I before I was saved by Jesus? A sinner with no hope. When I was saved I want to thank God and worship Him. This is probably why God give the Israelite their 10 commandments. The Israel should know the right way to worship their God. What kind of God is Him? And what is the right way to worship Him? God does not require man to obey His commandments. Without the right relationship with Him, following His commandment has no meaning. On the other hand, after we have a right relationship with Him, we should start to think about how to get to know Him more and how to please Him.
