Background:
Joseph is the son of Jacob, whom God names Israel. His brothers are jealous about him because of the love of their father (Gen. 37). They sold him as slaves to the another country.
Genesis is the narrative which illustrates the beginnings, including the beginning of the nation Israel. When we read narrative God does not teach us directly. Instead you immerse yourself in that character and take that as your experience, then you deduce what is the principle that is applicable to you.
Sharing:
Joseph refuses his master's wife because he appreciate what his master does to him. From a salve who was sold (v.1) to the master of the household (v.5) Joseph was promoted out of anyone expectation. However, Joseph knows that to accept the offer of the master's wife, not only sin against his master, but also God (v.9).
Thinking:
(1) The master treats Joseph well and thus he is unwilling to sin against him. How about us? Do we have the same thanksgiving heart to the One who has died for us on the Cross?
(2) Joseph realizes that, "My master has withheld nothing from me" (v.9a). Do I count how many blessings God has bestowed in my life?
(3) The master is good to Joseph not without a reason. Joseph makes his household prosper. God is good to us without us giving Him any prosper. How can we sin against Him?!
