Ps 146
When we read Psalm, we do not analyze the passage like the other Scriptures. Instead, the writer of psalm is like a painter, a musician, or a psalmist. They give us an instrument to praise God. In Ps 146, I found the picture of contrast. The contrast of time. In v.1-2 the psalmist expresses the desire to praise God as long as he lives. Then v.3-4 describes the limited time of man. Finally, v.5--10 the psalmist tells us three times the eternality of God (v.6, 10a, 10b). From v.5 I can imagine the psalmist encourages his fellow countryman that even they are oppressed by other nations, the God of their forefather is trustworthy because He is a God of eternity. How does the fact of eternity impact me today? Eternity does not only tell us something about the timing of the subject. Different length of life span limits the trustworthiness of the subject (V.3-4). When I ponder of the eternity of God I know my future is secure. I know He s the one who is able and will care for me. Daniel knows that king Belzzechar will have his monarchy ends on the day that he sees the finger writing on the wall (Dan 5:30). Daniel does not want anything from the king, even the thrid place in the kingdom (Dan 5:17). That is not much difference in what the world can offer to us today. This is only something temporary, shall we waste so much energy to gain them?

In v. 5, what does "God of Jacob" mean?

Jacob is the forefather of Israel. God reveals to him and rename him "Israel" (See Genesis 32:27-32).
