Ps 1
I think v.1-2 is a good example for resolution. Do not "walks in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers." The wicked are the one who are obvious because of their sinful behavior. Therefore, this is an "outward" resolution. The sinners are those who trespass God's will. They are the rebellious one. Therefore, we should not stand where they stand. This is an "inward" resoltion. The scoffers say something that is offensive to God. We do not even want to sit with them. They have nothing to do with us. This is a "wayward" resolution.
The daily bread website gives me good suggestion to tie up the red light and the time to meditate.
In v.3-5, the psalmist gives a contrast between the righteous and the wicked. The contrast is obvious. Why is there a difference? Who gives the water runs through the tree? Who gives Him prosper in everything he does? On the other hand, who makes the wicked and sinner not standing in the judgment? The answer is in v.6. The Lord. He knows or He takes care of the righteous but not the wicked. God becomes a good motivation for my resolution. If staying away from sin and meditating is not pleasing to God then why would I want to do that?! In other word, my new year resolution is to please God and Him alone!
