The idiom in 18:2 only mentions about the sourness of the father goes to the son. But, God answers them (1) everyone is responsible to their own sin, (2)Everyone is responsponsible to their own good. In other words, the ones who are captured think the bad things they experienced are due to the bad things their father done. They think they are good person and have bad things happen to them. That's why God repeats in saying that He is fair. If they have done good things they will experience good life. However, they did not experience that, why? They are still doing the bad things. In the 3 generations describe from v.5 to v.20. One of them learn a lesson from previous generation v.14. He fears because he saw what his father has done. The Israelites being captured, do they learn a lesson from their father and turn away from sin? (1) Do I always blame my family or others for bad things happen to me? (2) Do I learn anything from my family or others so that I can avoid their sins?
