Nahum 1-3
Assyrian is a much stronger country than Judah. As a matteer of fact, Judah was threatened by them (1:15). They have a large population (1:12, 2:8), strong military protection (3:8-13) and they see themselves as lions (2:11-13). However, this is also a country of idol worship (1:14) and full of sins (3:1-7). Surely they have all kinds of reason to be pround of themselves and rely on their own power. Those are facts and no one shall deny that. Same is true for us today. We have all kinds of reason to be pround of ourselves. We think we can rely on our own power. We have money, wisdom, a good job, and good relationship. These can be gone in a second. If we do not have the right relationship with God. "The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD is avenging and wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. (1:2)"
