Amos 3-5
In ch 3-5, Amos gives the warning about their capture to Babylon. He gives them the reasons (theirs sins in 3:10, 4:1, 4:4-5) and the warning signs (4:6-11). However, Israel does not listen. One of the their sins is the offering of sacrifice. Why is it a sin? Does not God like people to offer to Him? We go to church every Sunday and give offering, should not God be happy about it? In 4:4-5, Amos points out their offering is a sin v.4, because they just want to please themselves v.5. The object of their worship is themselves, not God. Do we go to church just to please ourselves? In 5:21-24, again their festivals and gatherings do not please God, because their lives is characterized by sin. They have no rightouesness and fairness in dealing with others. How do we treat others? GOd knows.
