12-20

Joel 1-3
The Day of the Lord is described a day of big trouble in ch 1-2a. People lost their crops because of the attack of the locust (1:4-7). Then they lost their foods, their ability to offering, and their happiness (1:8-12). Finally, their live stocks are going die (1:20). The picture of the Day of the Lord is one of a severe judgment (2:1-11). 2:12 is a dramatic turn. After this verse, the picture change. God shows His mercy on his people. Physical restoration (2:21-27), and spiritual restoration (2:28-29). What is 2:12 all about? The real repentence of the Israel! Our physical condition gives us hint about our relationship with God. If we face a lot of hardships in life that may a warning from God. Do I have sins that is unrepented? Of course, not all the hardships are the sign of warning. 2:13 says, torn your heart, and not your garments. Torning of garments are only external sign for other to see. Do I really have a broken heart or a real repentence before God?
