Hos 1-3
I think Hosea was shock when he heard the command of God that he should have a harlot for wife (1:2). Shall he shock? The Israel is a harlot themselves (1:2b). Moreover, after they got married his wife may still practice as a harlot. In v.2, it says the chidlren are from the adultery. In v.3, 6, 8 the children are never said to belong to Hosea. What a awful marriage! If it happens to me, most probably I will ask for a divorce. This is exactly what Israel does to God! She turns her back to God in a awful way. Do I turn my back to God like that? Do I worship other objects other than God? How do I know I am doing the wrong thing? In 2:8-13, many "disaster" or "unfortunate things" happen in my life. They are not co-incidient, but as a result of God's judgment. They have a purpose of driving us back to God (2:7). If you are the ex-husband, will you forgive and receive back this adulterous wife? Very difficult. But God does (2:14-23). What shall I do for His mercy to me?
