Daniel 4-6
Recap for chapter 1
The purpose of the king to pick the best youth out of the refugee and train them in the Babylonian knowledge and give them the Babylonian food is to "normalizing" them(1:3-5). In other words, he wants them to be the representative of the king among the Israelites. Shall I also let the culture of this world to "normalize" me? To avoid that, I think I should not spend too much time indulge in the entertainment of the pop culture.
For today's passage,
If anyone can be proud of themselves, I think the kings of the ancient time are very proud people. In ch 4 God uses a lesson to let Nebuchanezzar knows who is the one who rule the world (v. 3, 17, , 25, 32, 35). In ch 5 Bezelzar's pride is even worse. He knows everything about Nebuchanezzar and he still not repents (v.22). He praises the idols and looks down on the real God (v.2-4, v.23).
Finally, in ch 6, the coworkers of Daniel are jealous of his power. They thinks they can have his position even Daniel is a more capable person (v.4). They want to get rid of Daniel even that means they have to prohibit all people in their country to worship God. What is most important to these people? Their job! Their job become their gods. All they want are the position of Daniel.
